About

At 51-90 cm, the third largest penguin, though body size varies widely across its range. The head is black with conspicuous white patches above the eyes, typically meeting across the crown, and the bill is bright red-orange. Its colonies are much smaller than those of other Pygoscelis penguins, and it forages inshore close to the colony.
